What is Real Construction Deluxe Workshop?
The Real Construction Deluxe Workshop kit is meant to simulate working with real tools and real wood and how these real kit work so your kids can have unforgetable moment and they can build a variety of different carpentry-style projects from tank, plane, etc. The general idea is that the “wood” is actually plastic foam board, so the tools can be plastic and the blades relatively dull. It’s also not as messy as wood because when sawed it doesn’t create any saw dust. The box even boldly proclaims “No Mess.”
Inside this Real Construction Deluxe Workshop set include a mitre saw and mitre box, that can be used to produce joints or hole cutters/borers or even a number of hinges along with both a cloth tool belt, to keep the tools close at hand when working, and a tool box, to keep everything in when your up and coming construction worker is not actually at work. With this mitre box you begin to see the fantastic value packed into these construction toys for kids.
Real Construction Deluxe Workshop Reviews
What toys are supposed to be. Creative - Educational - Fun, September 29, 2010

It's just like building with wood, but with foam. All the tools and techniques are the same except it's way safer and easier.
It's super creative. In fact its better when kids don't try to follow the instructions and just build. I saw a girl build a super cool spider/doll that you'd never see in an instruction book.
It builds big sturdy things. And it floats too. The wind blew a viking ship around our pool all day yesterday.
Some of the things that make building a little difficult also make the toy safe, so I'll forgive them. I know the nail would go in better to little pieces if it was sharper, but it makes sense to be dull. In general building bigger is easier. The big hole cutters work better than real ones for wood, once you learn the "small back and forth twist technique". It makes pegging things together easy too.
And for you adults- "Makers", crafters, teachers, and DIY-ers- This stuff is great for projects. It's the same foam as FunNoodles, but in plank, dowel, and square form. In combo with Funnoodles they build bigger. [ FOR ADULTS ONLY-- it works great with real screws, tools...and Hot Glue ]
My only problem is I use the material too fast and have to buy more of the refill packs for Deluxe Workshop.

I was really excited about this set. I thought my son and I would have this great time with it but that was not the case. I'm a pretty handy guy, but the instructions with the kit were less than helpful. Instead of step-by-step directions, the brochure just showed pictures of various crafts you can make with the kit. While the pictures were helpful in giving a general idea of what the pieces should look like, they really weren't detailed enough. They could have been improved dramatically if the company had just put some rough measurements of the pieces.
So... my son and I built the tank and it was mostly an exercise in frustration. We kept trying to guess what to do based on the pictures but the tank didn't turn out quite as expected. It wasn't awful, but it was anti-climatic once it was complete.
But, once we finished the tank, we started building things on our own and had a pretty good time. We built each other swords and shields and then had a battle, and that experience was fun. My suggestion to anyone who wants to get the Deluxe Tool Workshop kit is to ditch the "instructions" and just make things yourselves.
Ultimately, all of the foam wood scraps, plastic screws, etc. ended up in the trash within a few days. Was it worth the price? Probably, but I wouldn't highly recommend it.
Great Toy....unless you actually want instruction to go with it., September 16, 2010

This is a great toy. My son got it for his eighth birthday and he has enjoyed it so far. However, it doesn't really come with an instruction manual. Instead there is a book that shows pictures of what the pieces look like. You have to guess the sizes of the pieces and how to cut them. If you just want to 'cut the wood' it's great, but if you actually want to make something, good luck.
